The Department of Communication at Texas A&M University invites submissions from undergraduate and graduate students to our annual Communicating Diversity Conference, which provides a forum to showcase, share, and engage in discussions about scholarship on communication and diversity.

This two-day conference begins on Thursday evening with a workshop facilitated by our conference Co-Directors. On Friday, talented undergraduate and graduate students will present scholarship engaging diversity in a variety of contexts and through different theoretical lenses. The day will culminate with Dr. Tomeka Robinson’s keynote address concerning her current research on the intersections between health, culture, and policy.

We invite submissions related to, though not limited to, social justice, cultural diversity in “old” and “new” media, mass media, global technology, civic discourse, leadership, health communication, organizational communication, rhetoric and public address, visual communication, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, public relations, political communication, and mass communication.

We especially encourage submissions that highlight voices of minoritized and marginalized groups based on gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, class, ability, and age.

Eligibility Undergraduate and graduate students from any institution of higher education are eligible to participate.
Submissions Submit a 250-word abstract to the submission tab on our website www.communicatingdiversityconference.wordpress.com by midnight CST on February 2, 2018. You will be asked to include your name, university/college affiliation, departmental affiliation, and student status (undergraduate or graduate), as well as the ability to self-identify three keywords that describe your presentation. Abstracts should be attached as PDF document with no identifying information in the document.

All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of experts. Socially relevant and theoretically informed abstracts that fit the conference theme will be prioritized. Submitters will be notified by February 16, 2018 about their acceptance or rejection. If your submission is accepted, you will be put on a panel to give a 10-12 minute presentation about your project during the conference on Friday, March 23rd.

Top Paper Award Those accepted to the conference are eligible for the Communicating Diversity Paper Competition. To be considered, submit your paper (10 page minimum) directly to tamucommunicatingdiversity@gmail.com by March 2, 2018. Top student papers will be recognized at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
Conference Registration Registration for the conference will be available beginning on February 16, 2018. Registration is free of charge. Registration deadline is March 16, 2018.
